Greenhaugh, Bardon Mill and Allendale enjoyed rural reading group led by a reader in residence, books supplied by Northumberland Libraries by authors attending the Festival.
HBF collaborated with Theatre Sans Frontieres to host a panel discussion at the Forum Cinema with Playwright Linda Maclean, Director John Cobb and members of the cast of 'Como Agua para Chocolate' about the process of adaptation of book to stage.
With funding from Northern Film and Media and with the collaboration of The Forum Cinema, Hexham, HBF ran four screenwriting workshops over two weeks at the Forum Cinema, these workshops attracted young people aged 13 to 18 yrs and were led by Fiona Birkbeck and featured a talk from Michael Chaplin at one meeting.
Hexham Book Festival and Northumberland Libraries held a successful event at Haltwhistle Library with author Ann Cleeves. Ann was discussing her novels and the inspiration behind her books and characters, she has published five novels of psychological suspense, winning the David Lawrie Dagger in 2006 with Raven Black. The event was enjoyed by all who attended and has paved the way for more similar events in the future.
Sian Pattenden is a writer and illustrator, she runs her Problem Clinic - a unique, fun and stimulating event for children aged 8 to12 - based on the adventures of Sian's truly awful Agatha Bilke character. The event at Ponteland Library was great fun and inspired children to create their own characters and stories.
Hexham Book Festival and Northumberland Libraries have joined forces with Hexham General Hospital to welcome authors to discuss their books at the hospital's Outpatient Department. The idea is that you can pick up a book which you can take away to read, come back and meet the author and join in an informal discussion about the book.
