With sponsorship from Northumberland National Parks and Tarmac HBF led a total of 11 days of poetry workshops in 11 rural first schools within the area of Northumberland National Park; Otterburn, Bellingham, Kielder, West Woodburn, Greenhaugh, Greenhead, Haydon Bridge, Haltwhistle, Humshaugh, Newbrough and Wark.
Children were taken on organised visits to Walltown and Hareshaw Linn led by park rangers, subject matter from these visits was used by two writers Chrissie Gittins and Carina Rodney in workshops creating pieces of poetry to enter into a competition as part of HBF. Information about these visits including pieces of children’s’ poetry can be found on http://www.northumberlandnationalpark.org.uk/news-article.htm?newsid=12507
Quote below from letter to Carina Rodney from head of Newbrough First School;
‘It was a marvellous experience for both children and staff and your enthusiasm, expertise and empathy with the children were thoroughly appreciated by us all. The children thoroughly enjoyed your friendship and activities and, judging by the high quality of poetry produced, we have all shared in what was a very memorable day for us all.’
